What to look for in a wedding photographer || by Lisa Gratton of Ophelia Photography

There is nothing more beautiful than being in love. When a couple hires me to photograph their wedding, they are entrusting me to tell their love story.

1. image quality:  Does the photographers work speak to you?  Are they consistently putting out amazing images?  Does their work move you?  After all weddings are the ultimate testimony of love and love has many emotions.   Photographers develop a style and body of work over the years, the more you view the better idea you have.

2. connection:  Do you feel a connection to your photographer.  This is so essential to me as I myself want to feel the same way about my clients.   After we will be with you when you get ready, say your vows, the first dance and capturing some of the most intimate moments of your life.    The more at ease you can be with your photographer, the more natural your images will be.

3, budget:  There are most definitely photographers to meet every budget, but as you begin to get your wedding finances ironed out, please do not underestimate the value of wedding imagery.   Photographs are one of the few things you get to keep with you after the day is over.   Some photographers promise more, such as albums and other extras…but the overall quality of the imagery should come before all the extras.   It breaks my heart when I hear about brides who are left with images they hate.   If you value photography then make sure you hire someone who you completely trust.  Save yourself potential regrets by making this a priority.

My hope is that a couple can look at an images and instantly be taken into that moment, and those who see it will know what it felt like to be at their wedding. Photography is the language of memories.

Kailey-Michelle - Such a great reminder for Brides, Lisa! Photography is one of the MOST important elements. After all, besides your memories, its one of the only tangible moments you have left after all is said and done.
