My first roll of medium format film on my new (old) Pentax 645

So I finally went back to my roots of shooting film.  I purchased a Pentax 645 medium format camera with a 75 mm 2.8 lens for under $300 and was beyond excited to get started.   I have literally spent the last 3 years researching film photography.    I love the way it looks.  The grain, the softness of the image, the color, skin-tones and highlights and just the overall magic.

Finally, this past few weeks I just went for it.   Let’s really put your skills to the test.  I have to admit I was really nervous.  Good-bye instant gratification, Hello anxious anticipation.   Hello mindfulness (16 captures per roll) goodbye multiple captures.    Goodbye Auto focus, Hello manual focus.

There was something calming about shooting film.    I felt as though if I could capture something beautiful here, then maybe I did have some talent after-all.  Now cheers to a learning curve!

Stay tuned for images from my new Canon 1N.  The images below were shot on location at Ma-Luxe Studios in Victoria.
