One of the things I love about weddings and editorial photography is how perfect the journey to the end result can be. All of the planning and energy that goes into each wedding and editorial reflects the hard work of the bride and groom and creative team of professionals. It’s my job to capture all of this hard work, and the photos appear effortless. Most often the behind the scenes hard-work and myself can show the raw realness of what goes into capturing these moments. I recently came across a few photos of me in action and I laughed. Seriously, I have a big sense of humor and I really believe being able to laugh at yourself is a great thing. A few things I learned from these images;
1. I have a strange sense of style. Sometimes I get it right dressed up and other times I look like pretty disheveled. Thank god for Marion and Carly from Ma-Luxe do my hair and makeup from time to time.
2. I can contort my body into some pretty interesting positions and small spaces. This comes in handy with wrapping myself around furniture or weird angles to capture the perfect photo.
3. I am not afraid of heights. I will climb ladders, scale rock walls, and stand on rooftops to get the perfect photo.
4. I’m not against lying on the ground anywhere to capture the image I desire to take. Although in that moment I can tell you that I am so hyper focused I have no idea I am doing this. That is why these images are particularly funny to me.
Photo of me shooting in a New York city taxi:

Last year I had the opportunity to capture Trevor Linden (former Captain of the Vancouver Canucks). Mr. Linden was photographed at 601 Herald. A luxury pet friendly condo residence in Victoria BC. He was photographed with one of my favorite pooches in the world…Marions puppy Finnegan.

Me letting Finnegan know that he would be just as popular as Mr. Linden. Finnegan has a little bit of an ego
.

She shoots, she scores!!!

Believe it our not this is a swamp in Steveston BC. One of my favorite locations to shoot.

Capturing Bettina!!! One of my favorite brides.

No Fear of heights for me…..this image doesn’t show the real height here….so I will let you imagine this.

Learning Strobe lighting with a massive soft box for the first time at 2:00 am in morning! I don’t recommend learning on the job, but we got it done. PHEW!!!!!
