Vancouver Wedding Photographer || Ophelia Photography bio picture

Welcome to Ophelia Photography's Blog!

I am a Vancouver Wedding Photographer who also specializes in Fine Art Portraiture of Children and Families.

I am also a Vancouver Island Wedding Photographer as my heart and soul will always partially live on the island.  I was born and raised in Port Alberni, BC and went to the University of Victoria, for Child and Youth Care in Victoria BC.   I now reside in Richmond, BC with my fabulous husband Matt and our beautiful Persian cat Lulu Belle.

When I am not shooting photographs you will find me sipping lattes and fine red wines.   I also love spending time with my husband, family and my fabulous friends.  I love to sing in the car really loud and dance around my living room.  Apparently, when I run I can resemble Phoebe off of friends so I prefer to speed walk when exercising to avoid such a comparison.   I have a loud laugh and sometimes still wish that Doc Martens boots will become cool again.   If I was to get a tattoo it would be of the Eiffel Tower mixed with a butterfly as I am in love with Paris and believe that transition is everything in life.

I am a photographer at heart.  My camera is an extension in my minds eye.  I love creating and making strong, dynamic and dramatic images for people to cherish.  People are my passion and photography is my gift of expression.

I look forward to meeting you and taking some amazing photos of you and your loved ones.  XOXO Lisa

Baby Georgia || Vancouver Baby Photographer

So baby Georgia finally arrived, 12 days late but perfect in every-way.    Carly waited and waiting for her to come and our daily chats about what this meant for Georgia’s personality still ring in my ears.   Will this mean, she will do things on her time, when she’s ready?   We will have to wait to see, but for now lets just admire the sweet innocence and her adorable pillowy lips that she got from her beautiful mother.   Nothing better then a sleeping baby and my new little niece is just pure bliss.

Congrats Carly and Russ you have a beautiful baby girl! XOXO

This shot was taken moments after my niece Harlow (Georgia’s Cousin) grabbed her hand.  How cute is she awake!!!

Celebrity Wedding Photographer || Barbie and Ken’s Day After Shoot || Vancouver Wedding Photographer

Since the success of Barbie and Ken’s wedding, I have since jumped to page one in google under the search term celebrity wedding photographer.   Along with names such as Joe Buissink and Jeff Ascough I feel pretty honoured to make the list.    Although Barbie and Ken may be made of plastic and are “toys”…… technically they are celebrities.  And because I love to photograph all weddings who am I to discriminate?    I’m on page one baby!  Now if only I could stay on page one for Vancouver Wedding Photographer.   I was on page one for a few days last month, for the search term Vancouver Wedding Photographer and my goal is to make it there again and stay there.

Now without any further ado, I give you, Barbie and Ken’s day after highlights:

William Massey - Wow Ken isn't looking too healthy nowadays. At least he's getting some sun now.

JeZa Photo - I just wanna stop by and say HOW I LOVE YOUR Barbie and Ken idea and LOVE This session!!! That's VERY creative!! How come Ken looks asian? LOL! Anyway, you are a talented photographer and keep up the good work. I hope we crossed our path sometimes or perhaps we'll meet & greet each other at WPPI. I am Zabrina from flickr and just reading up your thread on SWPB!:)

Chris Lin - Still laughing about this one. :-)

Jessica and Adam || Day After Session || Destination Wedding Photographer

It been 3 weeks since I was in Mexico and I am still having withdrawals.    I want to go back!  I want to be where the sun is shinning and feel the white sand of the stunning beach between my toes.   I want to hang around with my funny and awesome new crew of friends by the pool, order a pina colada and have nachos with fresh guacamole and salsa.     Heck, I would even do another shot of tequila……well one second thought……maybe not!

So I sit here writing in my office, trying to clean the house before Matt returns from Vegas, and blogging about two amazing people,  Jess and Adam.   A few days after their wedding and on the last day of my trip we meet up to make photo magic again.    Enjoy!

P.S:  As a Vancouver Wedding Photographer and Vancouver Island Wedding Photographer, I wanted to let people know I have some Saturdays come available for August 7th, 2010 and September 4th 2010.   Please email me for details: opheliaphotography@gmail.com

And don’t forget your photographer when planning your destination wedding!!!   You are in paradise and  should feel confident in your photographer and the final images you receive.

Inukshuks made the trip to mexico as well.   My best friend Jen had them as her wedding favours and in honour of the Olympics I packed them in my suitcase so they could enjoy Mexico as well!

The Many Faces of my Gorgeous Little Niece Harlow || Vancouver Baby Photographer

Harlow makes me laugh all the time.  She is a bright little gem that came into our family 8 months ago.    Harlow very expressive and wants everyone to know she is in the room.   You can’t help but notice her adorable face, but you also won’t miss her as she screams in delight about a toy, or her own expression in the mirror.   She is absolutely wonderful and I love her to pieces.

Jessica and Adam|| Wedding in Mexico || Destination Wedding Photographer || Vancouver Wedding Photographer

As Jessica pinned the final tendrils of her hair, she looked in the mirror and asked, “how do I look?”  Her girls, could not hold back their tears as they nodded in unison agreeing that  she was magnificent.   She was breathtaking.    All the hustle and bustle of the morning had come together perfectly.     With her composure barely kept, Jess read the card Adam wrote to her and burst into laughter when she announced she already knew about the bracelet that accompanied the card.

It was a few minutes later, when the girls left the room and I stood with Jess on the patio waiting for her father Larry that the time stood still.  When Larry saw his daughter for the first time, it was one of the most beautiful moments I have personally witnessed in my journey as a wedding photographer.     When they embraced everything was calm and quiet.  The kinda calm where you can hear your own heart beating.    It was an amazing moment that I felt really blessed to witness and I could only imagine the power it held for both Jess and her dad.

From there it was time…time for Jess to walk down the aisle.   On the arm of her dad Jess rounded the pathway towards the gazebo where Adam waited for her.   Situated in the middle of  a tropical paradise, complete with a fountain, the wedding gazebo was perfection amongst the grounds of the Ibeorostar Parisio Beach .   Surrounded by close friends and family, the couple shared their vows and  sealed it with 2 kisses, as Jess and Adam were to excited to wait for the commissioner.

From their we all meet at the beach for some photos, and I have to say….I want to photograph more tropical destination weddings.  The light, the beach, the water, the sand, the colour, all the elements come together and were nothing short of inspirational.

To Jess and Adam:  From the bottom our hearts Matt and I want to thank you for letting us be apart of your wedding.  Matt and I not only felt welcomed as your photographers, but you made us feel like true friends.   We had so much fun with all your friends and family that we still can’t stop talking about our adventures and new friends we have made.

With much love, Lisa and Matt

p.s:  COCO BONGO FOREVER

My husband Matt followed the boys as the swam in the ocean, played volleyball, participated in yoga, and water polo…….Way too much fun!

How gorgeous is Jess?  Is that even a question!

The most beautiful moment…..

Reception location….the steak house!

The boys serenade Jess and Adam with you’ve lost that loving feeling.

The olympics was about to begin and I brought some Olympic Mitts for Jess and Adam to where.

Landis - Lisa your pics are amazing! Everyone looks so happy and natural and just beautiful. I really like the pics of the rings and the shoes too, so creative. I can't wait to see more, and more of the sexy shoot:)

Lana - Wow Ophelia.... incredibly beautiful wedding (photos, location and couple!!). I don't know why but the ring shots made me weepy! lol. BTW, Jessica, I want your earrings!! Best wedding earrings I've ever seen!

Stacy Squires - Chri - a beautifull wedding ... and wonderfull photos to remember it by

Rima - wow, these are fantastic! What a fun and relaxed wedding! The shot with the guys wearing the hats is a classic!

Chris Lin - Lisa, this looks like a seriously fun wedding, and it really comes through in your photos. Love the setup of the shoes. It's like the old Sesame Street thing, "one of these things is not like the other". Guys getting ready juxtaposed with gals getting ready still cracks me up. And that is a pretty fine bridal party all right.

Celebrity Wedding Photographer Ophelia Photography || The BIG SURPRISE Unveiled

So the BIG surprise has been unveiled.    Only a few privileged souls have been privy to my “special project” and I know they have been waiting anxiously for the outcome.    The outcome is that Barbie and Ken got married in a secret romantic get away in the Mayan Rivera and hired me to photograph the nuptials.  I have to say they were very hush hush about the their wedding details and to my surprise were AMAZINGLY out going and will to “go there” to get the shot.    They were fearless, hopeless romantics and so very easy to photograph.  Along with their good friends, Barbie and Ken had an MAGNIFICENT wedding, with white sands, tropical flowers and plants, iguanas, pina coladas and lots of love!

Now that I am officially a destination and celebrity wedding photographer, I can cross another goal off my 2010 list of things to do in my photography.

The wedding party!  They have so many friends.

Barbue never stops smiling!  She would make Miss America jealous!

Ken’s idea for a shot was to get close to an iguana!   I just love fearless couples.

Do you like Pina Coladas?  Barbie and Ken do!

Even the animals were loving this couple!   This peacock wanted to be apart of the photos!
